Who can join JETAASI?
Anyone (regardless of your home country) can join a JETAA chapter. We just need your name, contact details and where/when you were placed in Japan, so we can keep in contact. JETAASI is mainly funded by CLAIR, so numbers determine funding.
How do I join JETAASI?
Send JETAASI a message with your name, contact details and placement in Japan and we will add you to the alumni database. You’ll then be kept up to date with opportunities and events in Christchurch and beyond.
How can I practice my Japanese in Christchurch?
Glad you asked! We run a bi-monthly language evening where you can practice your Japanese and/or English in a fun environment. See our events page for details.
What does JETAASI do?
Above all, JETAASI is a network to support former JET participants after their return from Japan. This could be anything from social interaction to career support, or just having someone to talk to about your Japan experiences. Our other main aims are to promote the JET programme, and strengthen ties between New Zealand and Japan.
I live outside of Christchurch...
Our main committee is based out of Christchurch and our events are run here, but there is a growing JETAA community further south and we are in the midst of creating an official Otago-Southland subchapter – watch this space! If you live elsewhere in the South Island and would like to start your own sub-chapter or group, please contact us.
Can I join the JETAASI committee?
We’re always looking for future committee members. Our elections are in March each year and positions run for a year (at least!) Committee members get lots of great perks like invitations to VIP events, networking with national and international diplomats and consulate staff, attending conferences around NZ and Australia, and even the opportunity to apply to visit Japan. Let us know if you’re interested.
